Two General-Aviation Airports Offer Convenience
Published Nov 19, 2008

Although small private planes use Front Range Airport, aircraft as large as Boeing 737s can land there.
Proximity is the pride of Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, a general-aviation facility in northern Jefferson County.
“We’re the third-busiest airport in the state of Colorado,” says Kenneth Maenpa, manager of the airport that calls itself “Denver’s premier corporate reliever choice.”
“No one can beat the convenience of this airport – we’re the closest airport to downtown Denver and to Boulder. We’re much more convenient and accessible than any other, and that’s why we stay so busy.”
Rocky Mountain Metropolitan, a division of the Jefferson County Development and Transportation Department, is self-sustaining; the airport receives no general tax dollars, and none of its revenue is used for county purposes.
Front Range Airport, a general-aviation facility about six miles southeast of Denver International Airport, serves private and business jets as well as cargo aircraft. Adams County opened Front Range Airport in 1984 as an economic engine for the eastern part of the county, and it now houses 21 businesses.
In this era of commercial cutbacks, the airport is positioning itself to be part of the solution for service to small communities in Colorado.
It has a runway system capable of accommodating aircraft as large as a Boeing 737 jet and has infrastructure for a large-scope project like a maintenance repair and overhaul facility, aircraft manufacturing, or passenger terminal, says Dennis Heap, executive director of aviation.
Both mile-high airports offer easy access to Denver International Airport, which is served by more than 30 commercial airlines with flights to about 130 national and international destinations.
