Westminster Brewery Gives Back to Community

Over a three-week period each spring, Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery offers Fire Chief Ale and gives local fire departments or related charities 25 cents for every pint sold. The 10-year-old promotion at the Westminster location raises about $5,000 annually.
“Bottoms up” at the Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in Westminster often means more than just draining a tall cold one. The restaurant, part of a chain of 93 around the country, has a strong commitment to helping the community.
Take the restaurant’s annual Fire Chief Ale promotion, held nationwide each spring. The 10-year-old promotion is centered around Rock Bottom’s Fire Chief Ale specialty brew. For three weeks each spring, Rock Bottom restaurants brew Fire Chief Ale and give local fire departments or related charities 25 cents for every pint sold.
In addition, during the Fire Chief Ale promotion, Rock Bottom Restaurants such as the Westminster location host a variety of events in partnership with local fire departments. Activities such as Fire Fighter Bachelor Auctions, chili cook-offs and salsa contests raise money to help support local fire departments.
“We raise about $5,000 each year during that three-week promotion,” says Mary Bilek, general manager of the Westminster brewpub. Nationwide, Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery locations have raised nearly $1 million over 10 years for local fire departments.
“We choose to give back to the community we’re in,” Bilek says. “And fire-fighting is such a selfless position, one that we all rely upon.” The annual Fire Chief Ale promotion is a chance to “celebrate the heros,” she says.
The restaurant’s mug club – a loyalty program – is another community service force. Promotional events planned every two months for Mug Club members have charity tie-ins such as canned food or coat drives.
