Water Park Makes Splash in Federal Heights
Published Apr 17, 2007

Hyland Hills Water World is a great place to spend a warm day.

Hyland Hills Water World in Federal Heights is making a big splash in the world of water parks. The municipally owned facility is one of the largest water parks in the nation.

“We’re recognized as one of the leaders in the business,” says Rick Fuller of the Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District, which operates Water World. “This is one of the top three or four in the country, if not the world, among water parks.”

Water World’s 64 acres feature 42 attractions.

Stroll along the tree- and flower-lined paths crisscrossing the park and you’ll find it hard to believe Water World has been in operation only since 1979.

With the lure of the nearby Rocky Mountains as the park’s biggest competition, Water World works continually to improve and expand its offerings, Fuller says. “We just try to get better and better at what we’re doing every year. We usually add a major attraction every year or every other year.”

Another recent emphasis has been on landscaping with trees, flowers, grass and shrubbery “to really make it look like a park setting,” he says.

Water World is a popular destination for people of different ages and interests. Visitors range from infants to senior citizens “and everywhere in between,” Fuller says. With such a diverse group in mind, and with a strong emphasis on customer service, Water World continually works to ensure it offers activities for everyone, Fuller says, adding, “We’ve tried to keep a good mix of things.”

The park opens Memorial Day weekend and closes after Labor Day.
