Web Exclusive Content Diverse Dining Is on the Menu in Metro North
Published Apr 23, 2008

Eating out in the Metro North region is a challenge – not finding a good restaurant, rather choosing one.

In the mood for pasta? Four generations of Italians make Holy Cannoli hard to resist.

“We were taught by watching our family make pasta,” says Fran Worth, co-owner. “Our menu is fresh every day, all day.”

The menu includes both savory and sweet cannoli – that means you can order it for dinner and dessert – and specialties like artisan gelato.

If your taste buds crave something from south of the border, the owners of El Jardin in Commerce City are certain their menu will please your palate – so certain your meal is free if you aren’t satisfied.

For more than 25 years, Ben Martinez and his family-owned restaurant have served southwestern and traditional Mexican food in the Denver area. Customer favorites include the pork carnitas, roasted for 24 hours, and the signature rellenitos. Fajitas, enchiladas and tequila lime chicken are also on the menu.

Classic American food is on the menu at the Village Tavern near Flatiron Crossing in Broomfield. Go for the specialty martinis and stay for the steaks, which have been aged 28 days.

For something truly different – and delicious – check out The Village Bistro in Westminster. Owner Angela Palinckx offers both traditional fare and some adventuresome choices including elk, kangaroo, rattlesnake and alligator.

“We say you can taste the world in casual sophistication,” Palinckx says. “You can come in every week and not worry about getting tired of the same old thing.”

Village Bistro is a place where couples and friends seeking fine evening dining enjoy wood floors, stone walls and copper fixtures.

Voodoo shrimp is a regular specialty, and Palinckx puts seasonal spins on so-called standard entrees, such as chicken or Ahi tuna steak. For after dinner, try a martini paired with dessert. Consider peach pound cake with a peach cream cheese martini.

“Literally every weekend we’re deciding what new thing to try,” Palinckx says.
