Atten-hut! The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in Commerce City is the largest contiguous open space in the Denver metropolitan area.

Wildlife abounds on the 17,000-acre preserve, in stark contrast to the site’s previous use: the manufacture of chemical weapons.

Portions of the refuge are open to the public, while other parts are still being environmentally cleaned up. That effort is scheduled for completion by 2011.
